Computer-connected data acquisition systems

These systems typically include analog and digital measurement capability but use a live connection to deliver data for processing and storage on a personal computer. USB connections are common, but plug-in cards (e.g., PCI) are also used. Computer-connected systems offer the same range of measurement and programming sophistication as do programmable multi-channel systems. The need to be connected to a computer makes them more attractive in a permanent office or lab setting, and they are used less frequently in field research.
