Domestic Water Usage

To monitor a household domestic water usage pattern (hot, cold, or mixed), flow rates and temperatures be monitored at the water heater, mains cold water at each end use fixture.

Depending on the focus of the research, researchers can decide the scope and procedures for testing and monitoring. For instance, if the total household daily water usage amount is of interest, monitoring at the main trunk is adequate. On the other hand, if a distribution piping model will be validated against actual field measurements, monitoring at each end-use fixture may be required.
