Wireless sensors

Wireless technology is a fast-growing area that will play an increasingly important role in data acquisition. By eliminating the need for cabling from sensors to a central gateway or data acquisition system, wireless devices reduce the disruption and cost of sensor placement in occupied building spaces. Wireless sensors raise new issues in system design. For example, analog to digital conversion will generally take place on board individual sensors, which may imply a reduction in accuracy as compared to measurements made on a high-performance programmable system. A low-cost gateway or router that works exclusively with digital data may be adequate as the central controller, replacing conventional programmable data acquisition equipment.
